Supermodel arrested for making "violent" phone threats to plastic surgeon
The 39 year old Dutch model was taken into custody at around 10am yesterday, and was quizzed by detectives in the French capital over a complaint made by a female cosmetic surgeon. Mulder was said to have been angry at the doctor for refusing to perform an operation correcting surgery she had undergone earlier. It is understood she made "repeated violent telephone threats" to the unnamed woman over several weeks.
Mulder became one of the world's most famous models in the 1980s and 1990s, regularly modelling alongside Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell, she was the face of fashion houses, including Calvin Klein, Chanel and Versace.
But in 1998, she announced that she quit modelling to start a brief singing career.
In 2001, Mulder claimed in a TV interview that she and other girls had been used as sex slaves by senior figures in the French police, government and fashion industry.
She later apologised, withdrew the allegation and was committed for treatment for depression to a Paris psychiatric hospital. In 2002, she was in a coma for more than a day after overdosing on sleeping pills. She then shunned publicity for several years only to return to modelling in 2007, she at Christian Dior's Paris show with 1990s supermodels Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Stella Tennant and Helena Christensen.
